In September, Endicott students participated in the 7th annual Ice Bucket Challenge to raise funds for ALS in front of Frates Hall, named after Beverly native Peter Frates who died from ALS in 2019 at age 34. The students were joined by Frates’ parents, Trustee Nancy Frates (not pictured) and John Frates (right), as well as President Steven R. DiSalvo, Ph.D. (far right). Shortly after the event, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the drug Relyvrio for the treatment of ALS. The research that led to the drug’s development was funded in part through money raised by the Ice Bucket Challenge, the event that was inspired by Peter Frates and raised over $115 million for research into ALS.

Sean Ellis

Sean K. Ellis, social justice and prison reform advocate, spoke at Endicott on November 9, 2022. Ellis, now 48, was wrongfully convicted of murder in 1995 and spent 21 years in prison. His case was the subject of the docuseries, Trial 4 on Netflix, which became the network’s #3 most-watched TV series for 10 weeks running.
