Beyond the Classroom in the Cummings School of Nursing and Health Sciences
The mission of the Cummings School of Nursing and Health Sciences reflects that of the college, to prepare graduates to practice in a complex and ever-changing healthcare environment with a solid base in liberal education. Curriculum integration of global healthcare issues and cultural concepts will ensure that students can participate in society as educated, culturally competent, and socially responsible individuals who respect others and the environment and who are accountable to protect and promote the well-being of those assigned to their care. Inherent in this mission is that the student will remain a self-learner throughout the lifespan, committed to both personal and professional development. Preparation for practice is based on evidence-based theoretical knowledge and structured, supervised clinical instruction. The educational process incorporates the student as an active participant in the care of the patient with an emphasis on patient – centeredness, quality and safety. Through the use of innovative teaching approaches and technology, a collaborative and interactive classroom environment is created in which students are encouraged to become self-learners, responsible for the depth and breadth of their acquired knowledge. The professional standards of nursing will provide the foundation for the development of critical thinking skills, leadership skills, scholarship, ethical reasoning, and therapeutic communication skills. Cummings School of Nursing and Health Sciences is dedicated to educating the nurse of the future with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to provide quality and safe patient-centered, care in a diverse healthcare environment.
Additionally, the Cummings School of Nursing and Health Sciences has adopted The Nurse’s Pledge to Champion Diversity Equity and Inclusivity developed by the New England Regional Black Nurses Association (NERBNA) and New England’s Organization of Nurse Leaders (ONL).
The Nurse’s Pledge to Champion Diversity, Equity, & Inclusivity
As a nurse, I pledge to:
• Actively listen to learn
• Champion strategies that advance equity
• See, hear, and accept people from every race and culture
• Promote the practice of self-assessment for unconscious biases
• Examine my practice and consider methods I can employ to stop contributing to systemic racism
• Be anti-racist, and stand with and stand up for, those with racially and culturally diverse backgrounds
• Foster a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusivity
• Increase diversity within my sphere of influence
• Advocate for anti-racist training in formal education
• Hold myself and others accountable to committing to reforms and action
• Pursue social justice by listening and engaging in dialogue with others, even when it is uncomfortable
• Support legislative efforts aimed at eliminating racism and discrimination, and supporting basic human rights
• Educate myself about systemic injustice, and then use my trusted voice to influence and educate others
The Student Nurses Association (SNA)
The SNA at 香港六合彩开奖结果 is a constituent chapter of the National Student Nurses Association (NSNA). Students who become members of the Endicott SNA have dual membership in both the school and professional organizations. Membership in the professional organization allows students to receive IMPRINT, the official publication of the NSNA. Through the NSNA, the standards and ethics of the nursing profession are conveyed. In addition, students have an opportunity to receive articles that allow them to stay current on important advances in nursing practice while promoting the development of critical nursing skills. Nursing students enrolled in the NSNA are eligible for scholarships and networking opportunities with other professionals. The SNA chapter of the NSNA allows students to become involved in fundraising and extracurricular activities that enhance their learning process.
