Program Overview
With a focus on experiential learning, our biology and biotechnology program provides students with a range of career opportunities on the North Shore and in the Boston region, our nation's biotech leader.
Program Overview
In the post-genome era, as incredible advances have unlocked our genetic information, biotechnology has emerged as the third great technological revolution of our time, along with the Industrial and the computer/information technology revolutions before it. As a student in the biology and biotechnology program at Endicott, you'll receive cutting-edge technical training in courses and laboratory sessions that, together, provide knowledge and methodological skills in areas like:
- Genomics
- Bioethics
- Molecular Biology
- Bioinformatics.
Whether you pursue an internship at a startup company in Endicott's STEM incubator, a nearby biotechnology company, or a hospital, opportunities are numerous. To view our internship opportunities, select the “Internships and Careers” tab atop the page.
Discoveries and applications related to biotechnology present a multitude of career opportunities in fields such as:
- Biotechnology
- Pharmaceuticals
- Research and Development
- Health
- Food and Nutrition
- Energy
Program Highlights
- Amazing internship opportunities - startups, research universities, medical centers, and local biotech companies make for diverse options.
- Diverse career options - work in a biotechnology or pharmaceutical company, research institute, or hospital; pursue graduate or professional school to become a doctor, physician assistant, dentist, pharmacist, or run your own research lab.
- Outstanding facilities - teaching/research labs, computer labs, and specialized facilities that include a DNA sequencing center, tissue culture room, fluorescent microscopes, high content imaging system, chemical instrumentation, Anatomage virtual dissection table, and augmented and virtual reality simulations.
- Incubator space - room for startup companies (including student and faculty initiatives) which provides internship opportunities.
- Technical skills - develop biotechnology lab skills and learn how to do data analysis (e.g., statistics, bioinformatics) by coding in R.
- Amazing guest lecturers - Sir Richard Roberts (Chief Scientific Officer at New England BioLabs and Nobel Laureate), Dr. Robert Langer (David H. Koch Institute Professor, MIT), Dr. David Mooney (Robert P. Pinkas Family Professor of Bioengineering, Harvard), Sir Richard Roberts (New England BioLabs and 1993 Nobel
Laureate in Physiology and Medicine), Dr. Joyce Wong (Professor, Boston University), the New England BioLabs Seminar Series. - Active Biology/Biotechnology Club - group events, panel discussions with alumni, career events.
- Phi Sigma Biological Sciences Honor Society - home to the National Office and President (Dr. Wong).
Endicott's biology and biotechnology program also offers a concentration in secondary education.
